Taking that extra action to support a relationship today supports our goals for harmony, even if it doesn't make any sense to us logically. It is easy to get caught up in a nasty net of an argument that is judgmental and confusing and strident. In our hearts, justice and peace are our goals, and in time we can achieve them. If we take the extra effort, we can see some of that happen today.
