When the "if only's" come, write them down, or find a way to record and remember them. Regrets and desires for do-overs are advice to ourselves to do things better the next time around. And there is always a next time, and another next time. We have lots of chances to get things right, and to feel the reward of that. Just don't get bogged down in painful self-judgment over past regrets. Resolve to do better, to be better, and to be a model for others on how to do things right and well.
This time of slow-down and almost-mystical self-evaluation happens on a global scale for a several-week period about every seven years or so. An outward sign of this period is an intense push-back on religion, such as the global pressures on Muslims these weeks.
